Instagram, arguably one of the best social media’s to use to get yourself out there a bit more. Having a pretty theme, posting regularly so your followers don’t become inactive & making sure the editing is perfect… we all have these problems right?
♡ I love that you can have this whole pretty page of pictures of things you do in your life. If you’re like me, I love to see what people did during the day, the places they visited & when they post their lunch (yes, I’m a fan of the foodies but it makes me hungry!) I follow some pretty awesome people on Instagram and all I can do is hope that one day my feed looks as great as theirs. My favourite accounts to look at on there are fashion, beauty & lifestyle bloggers. I feel like they’re just so organised with their feeds and it looks so cool. The way their photos are set up, the lighting is on point, and all the bits and pieces they have just go perfectly together.
♡ If you’re blessed with good natural lighting, then I envy you so bad because mine is absolutely terrible. I feel like there’s a lot of pressure on Instagram sometimes to have perfect pictures taken with a DSLR camera.. and that there is way too many people who judge you based on it. Whenever I get an unfollow, I can’t help but think ‘urm, was it because my theme wasn’t to their standards?’. My Instagram isn’t exactly themed, but it’s just organised and not a mess (well, to my standards). I think it’s too much work to keep consistent with one theme because eventually your photo inspiration does run out & you’re left with no option but to change (messing up your feed) or start again (which still messes up your feed).
♡ Hashtags.. They really are actually useful on Instagram as a pose to Twitter. For me I find hashtags do not work on Twitter (maybe it’s because I have a smaller following there, but I don’t think that would correlate). My favourite hashtags to use on Instagram are: #vsco #london #art #igdaily #photography #nails & obviously #bbloggers. These get noticed instantly, and they aren’t as annoying as the #lfl #fff typical ones. Don’t get me wrong they are SO useful, but I just get bored of them, the hashtag is so spammed up.
♡ Since the latest updates, I do think Instagram has gone slightly downhill with how useful it is. For one, my feed now comes up as: (example) first picture – 6 days ago, second picture – 3 minutes ago, third picture – 6 hours ago. You get the point? Well, yes, I find this extremely irritating because I miss out on so many posts. Of course, this affects my posts too because it is the same with my followers’ feed.
♡ I feel like it’s just easy to gain a following on Instagram as it is on Twitter, something people would disagree with. However, it’s much easier to have a high proportion of inactive followers on IG, which is never good for blog post promotion etc. As well as the number of unfollowers, don’t get me started there. I gain more than I lose though so I try not to let it bother me.
I’m going to stop rambling on now, and I should probably go & post a photo on Instagram, so maybe I’ll see you over there? My username is @charlieannecx!
