Nail Blogger Struggles

Being a generalised blogger is hard enough as it is, me being a nail blogger mainly, I have A LOT of struggles. The struggles are worth it because I love blogging, I feel appreciated & I love what I write/do.

My Blogger Struggles:

Time: Probably a major issue for most bloggers who aren’t full time. For me, juggling work and having the hours left in the day to blog is a challenge. When it’s something you really enjoy, you manage it I guess. When I have spare time, I seriously make the most of it.

My Collection: Not having the exact shade when I want to do a nail design. Say I need a peach, I’ll have a colour which looks too Orange and one which looks too Pink.. It’s not Peach! MUA’s probably have this struggle too with eyeshadow etc.

Shopping: Every single time I’m out with my Mum or Boyfriend, without a doubt I will look at nail polishes and I’ll get the classic line of “gosh, you don’t need anymore! Come on Charlie”.. but yes, I really do. I need more pretty photogenic bottles and shades I don’t have.

Tutorials: These are my FAVOURITE things to do for Instagram and Pinterest, but nothing frustrates me more than starting to make a nail tutorial and one of these three things happens.

  1. I get called to do something/go somewhere when I had no official plans.
  2. The lighting just completely changes as if I’m in a completely different country to the previous photo.
  3. I realise I had to do something, which I now cannot do because I’d have wet nails (I’m pretty much useless then!)

Polishes in my posts: The literal moment I buy a new polish, my first thought is ‘omg okay, going to go home, paint my nails with it and then I need to incorporate it into a blog post’, I mean come on Charlie, let’s be honest, If I put every one of my polishes into a post, I’d have the most tedius blog out there.

Staring game: If I got a pound for every minute I sat staring at my colour collection, not having a clue what to use/do, boy I would be rich. I just have too many designs bursting out of my brain cells. My brain is a little like “hm, maybe Yellow because Summer but no I think I’ll use Black please”.

Desk Obsession: I guess this isn’t a bad thing as a blogger, but for general life it’s kind of shocking. I literally never leave the house in my spare time because all I want to do is nails and make blog posts? It’s like I’m obsessed with my desk more than people.

My Bank: Yep, they probably hate me, my card is SO overused. I have to use something to fund my nail blogger obsession! However, I need to learn money isn’t unlimited and nail polish doesn’t fall from the sky for free.

‘Why don’t you keep the designs on?’: Something I get a lot, mainly because of my outfits and work. Most of my designs are bright and impractical for everyday life. Believe me, if having Disney Frozen nails was socially acceptable, I’d have that every day!

Patience: Waiting for the friggin’ things to dry is my biggest issue. If I have 6 posts planned, and one nail design takes over an hour it really does stress me out! It can’t be rushed though.

They’re most of my struggles.. maybe I’ll stop waffling now.

HOW TO: Messy Marble Nails

This is one of my favourite nail posts, since my geometric one. I love finding new easy ways of different designs, that saves a heck of a lot of time. So marble, it’s a blogger/interior designers’ best friend because it just looks so modern and quirky. I always wondered an easy way of doing it on my nails and now I’ve figured it.

You don’t need anything more than a couple of different grey/black shades, 2 or 3 ear buds and a peel off base coat might help for taking it off, but it isn’t essential. Try not to make all the colours too dark, vary them so you get the contrast.

You should probably make sure you have some energy in you, that’s pretty important for this.

– Simply, paint all of your nails white to begin with.

– Begin with the darker colour, so Black if you have that.

– Chop both of the fluffy ends off of the ear buds, try not to cut them too short because you don’t want to be eating the nail polish.. I don’t suppose it tastes very good.

– Paint the top of the ear bud and blow through the other side onto your nail. It should splatter out if you blow hard enough. You may have to do this a couple of times to get the coverage you want.

– Do the same working your way through the shades until it looks a little something like this.

There you have, a messy marble nail design. Simple, right?!

PS: another couple of ear buds might be essential to helping you get off any excess which completely missed your nail.

Summer Nail Ideas

When Summer comes, I always want to go for the brightest colours and then I think to myself ‘ok hold up Charles, you cannot rock that’ and I stick with a bog standard colour but hey, doesn’t stop me giving you some Summer nail ideas. Not as complicated as they look, believe me! I’ll leave the main colours I used, but they obviously don’t need to be exact.

Here are my ideas:

Ice Lolly: One of the best things to have in the Summertime.

 – Pineapples: I don’t know about you, but I am obsessed with Pineapples this year. The amount of trinket dishes, ornaments etc I have seen with them on, I want it all.

– Sunshine: To brighten up your day (see what I did there, ha no).

Happy Clouds: Dedicated to the Brits because our Summer is more clouds than Sunshine.

Palm Trees: Something we don’t have here in England but are still a very pretty design for nails.

Bright Aztec Patterns: Can’t go wrong with a basic Aztec using some summery colours.

– Basic Stripe: If you prefer simplicity.

Floral: You never know, this might just match your Summer outfit patterns, there is plenty of florals to choose from. Use Pinterest and you’ll be addicted to floral nail patterns.

White with a glitter of your choice: Pretty self explanatory. Simplicity at it’s finest because White will always stand out.

Blossom Tree: because again, we love the florals for Summer.

Basic Colorblock: Good design for when you don’t have loads of time on your hands.

Ice-Cream: Weird craving I had, so I came up with the nail idea instead.

Glitter base on bright colour: Subtle and then ba-bang, a sprinkle glitter.

Watermelon: Who doesn’t love this during the summer time? So refreshing. So refresh your nails.

Sunglasses: They’re just the coolest thing about Summer really. Love me some Primark sunglasses.

Strawberries: Ok, my idea list is getting a little too fruity, sorry.

Bright dotted mandala: I LOVE mandalas all year round. You’ve just got to switch up the colours depending on the time of year.

Bright sprinkles: It reminds me of ice-cream. You can always find actual sprinkle nail polishes in Poundland for those wondering.

Main Colours I used:

Barry M

Berry Ice-Cream, Dragon Fruit, Black & Pink nail art pens and Key Lime.

Rimmel

Breakfast in Bed, Chin Up Buttercup and Caramel Cupcake.

NYC

Long Island Supermodel, Frozen Metal, Sunny Manhattan and Uptown Fashionista.

Sinful Proffesional

Snow me White.

HOW TO: Doughnut Nail Art

The idea of this post literally came about just from my craving of doughnuts. In the end I settled for a sandwich and a bottle of water, whilst painting doughnuts on to my nails instead. So, I thought I’d show you how to do a simple doughnut design, made easy. I mean, we all love them right?!

It’s pretty basic. Pick your favourite Pinkish Nude (Pretty n Witty shade, which doesn’t actually have a name), a very neutral colour (Barry M’s ‘Nude’) & another colour you’d want your icing to be. In my case, I chose a dark Pink, one of my newest colours ‘Don’t be shy’ by Rimmel.

Paint your pinkie & your thumb both this ‘icing’ colour. They’re simply gonna be the good old doughnut glaaaaaze.

Your second finger should be all Nude Pink to begin with, and both middle fingers pale Nude.

This part is literally about as complex as it gets. If you have a dotting tool, a brush even better (you can get brushes from PoundStretcher or Poundland for literally 50p-£1 in the UK.. you’ll find other nail bits in my nail blogger bargains post). Anyway, you’ve simply got to draw some circles. If you haven’t got anything besides the nail polish bottle, run to the kitchen and get a cocktail stick!

I squished in lots of doughnuts on one finger and just did two bigger ones on the other so that you can actually tell what they are. Besides, my nails are tiiiiny so, only so many of them can fit here.

Now if you have a sprinkle kind of polish, I’m using ‘Barry M’s ‘Dolly Mixture’ from their Confetti range, these are really easy to get hold of.. then literally just ‘sprinkle’ onto each of the doughnuts edges. Don’t forget the two nails painted previously because they’re gonna be covered in sprinkles. Use your ‘icing’ colour and paint a squiggly line onto your second finger which should be a different colour to the rest, filling it in & once dry, again, BACK AT IT WITH THE SPRINKLES!

You should end up with something like the photo below. There you have, doughnut nails, made simple.

I’m hungry, so off I go to have some real doughnuts.

Until Next Time,

HOW TO: Basic Geometric Nails ♡

Last night, randomly lacking inspiration for nail designs, I came across a geometric type of design and I loved it as soon as it saw it. I’m a fan of quirky bright designs. I thought I’d show you a simple step by step on how to do it yourselves.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

♡ You’ll only need 3 bright polishes of your choice, a background colour (in mine, I used white but any light colour that contrasts to your other three is fine!)

♡ Then grab some type of tape. I used actual nail striping tape which you can order on eBay or Amazon for literally 1 or 2 pounds for 10 rolls, bargain! If you don’t like ordering on eBay, charliesnailart.co.uk sells the rolls for 39p each, and that’s pretty good too! You can even use my discount code ‘CNA10’. Back on track, if you don’t have striping tape you can use masking tape/sellotape just be sure to cut it down to a much thinner size & if using sellotape make sure the base colour is completely dry as the sellotape will peel it off afterwards otherwise.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

♡ So I did my base coats the night before so I knew they were super dry & it would save time when putting the tape on and off for the design. So with your 3 chosen bright colours paint the thumb, second finger and pinky.. one of each of these colours. In my case they were White, Purple and then Turquoise.

♡  Place the striping tape at different angles, leaving no gaps between the triangle shaped sections or this would make the lines rigid when you peel it off.

♡ Using your three colours evenly fill in the gaps between the tape which at first will appear messy (like my ring finger) and after a few minutes begin to peel the tape off and it should appear like my middle finger below.

Don’t forget the top coat! Then, literally that is all. Who knew something that looks so complex can be so easy?! I love it because it just looks so quirky.

I hope this gave you some nail inspiration for if you’re bored of plain colours because I can be sometimes!

Until next time,
